Her artistic work is characterized by images that do not illustrate, realities that do not realize anything and yet remain a mystery, consciousness in the subconscious. Questions that trigger answers and yet remain nothing more than questions, the longing for freedom that is still nothing more than an illusion. Her works take us on a journey through time from the past, present and present future.

Marianne Mettler verknüpft in ihren Arbeiten, Fotografie, Video, Projektionen, Musik, Textfragmente und minimalistische Lichtführung.

Ihr künstlerisches Schaffen ist geprägt von Bildern die nicht bebildern, Realitäten die nichts realisieren und doch ein Geheimnis bleiben, Bewusstsein im Unterbewussten. Fragen die Antworten auslösen und doch nichts weiter als Fragen bleiben, der Sehnsucht nach Freiheit, die noch nichts weiter als eine Illusion ist. Ihre Arbeiten führen uns durch eine Zeitreise der vergangenen Gegenwart und der gegenwärtigen Zukunft.

Laugh, smirk, sniffle,

the world is a button, and you are the thread,

pull, pull, pull –

until the mask falls.

But not the smile. NEVER the smile.

Lachen, schmunzeln, schnäuzen,

die Welt ist ein Knopf und du bist der Faden,

zieh, zieh, zieh –

bis die Maske fällt.

Aber nicht das Lächeln. NIE das Lächeln.
